Have you ever spent hours preparing your itinerary for a vacation, only to find out later that you visited all the same touristic places as everybody else? WeGo|CITY wants you travel to cities like Barcelona without any preparation at all, as they guide your leisure time and serve up truly personalized experiences.
The Barcelona-based startup recently closed a round of €2.4 million to continue to develop their app, which through an artificial intelligence engine will deliver your best possible holiday, according to Rodrigo Menchaca, head of development & innovation at WeGo CITY.
“If you download this app when coming to Barcelona, it will be like your cloned brother that grew up in Barcelona, with the same interests, feelings and passions as you, is standing there ready to give you the time of your life“, he tells Barcinno.
Attacking the leisure time
The concept will be launched on 4YFN in late February.
WeGo CITY is trying to respectfully disprove Einstein’s most famous theory, The Theory of Relativity, by attacking the niche of time and making your leisure-time “un-relative“. Based on your persona, their artificial intelligence algorithm will provide you with the best possible agenda in Barcelona..
For months and months, they have tracked down all the best places to do what you like to best, if it’s eating, skating, art, museums etc.
You can also walk in the footsteps of famous footballers, skaters and other celebrities, to see Barcelona from their point of view
“This is not a guide, we are not competing with any other travel services or apps out there. We will give you a unique leisure experience“, says Menchaca.
In total, 62 people are part of developing this app and the business model in Barcelona for the last two years. WeGo|CITY is the latest offspring from the company Atlas Lab.
Business model of organic ads
WeGo|CITY’s revenue will come from commissions and organic ads. In this they promise that the user never will be exposed to banner ads or other irritating adverts.
“We are planning this to go worldwide, we’ll start in Barcelona and then expand to other cities. It’s a franchise and can be applied in any city in a matter of months“, Menchaca explains.
Without mentioning any clients in general, WeGo|CITY explains that they have several big companies on board. Their business plan was validated by Deloitte.
Up to a million users in 2016
WeGo|CITY estimate that they will have between 500.000 – 1.000.000 million users within 2016. They already have 300.000 users from building the database for things to do in Barcelona.
They plan to capture everyone who comes to Barcelona through a strategic partnership with the Eurona, a wifi provider in the most relevant access points in the city.
“To get wifi everywhere, they have to download our app“, says Menchaca.
For their big launch to disrupt the theory of relativity during the 4YFN, they’re flying in two world-known astrophysicists. WeGo|CITY does not want to reveal anything in advance, so the only way to know is to be there.
