Dr. Marc Torrens is the Chief Innovation Officer at Strands. His professional aim is to bridge the gap between the outputs of scientific research and the inputs needed by real-world Internet applications. Marc’s passion lies in overcoming new business challenges with state-of-the-art technology in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Data Visualization, Usability and Product Design. Marc holds a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne and an MSc in Computer Science from UPC. Based in Barcelona, he is also a faculty member of the Business Analytics and Big Data Master Programme at the IE Business School in Madrid.

We will also have a presentation by IBM. IBM Watson offers banks a cost-effective way, through the cloud, of scouring such data to build clues that provide a more in-depth view of what their customers desire. In this case we will see use cases for this technology, and how can help businesses to create new opportunities.

Lastly Aldo de Jong,co-founder of business innovation & service design firm Claro Partners and co-founder of Startupbootcamp IoT & Data will talk about “How to turn big data into meaningful user experiences”. Aldo helps corporations and startups navigate disruptive shifts in society and business by understanding major shifts like the Personal Data Economy, Internet of Things, The Rise of Microbusiness and the Sharing Economy from a people and business perspective.. He has recently lead a project that looked into major disruptive shifts in financial services, in collaboration with the FinTech investment firm Anthemis and six major banks, the high level report of which can be downloaded at AlwaysInBeta.org
