On the Margins of Tech – Codely Launch Party

Let’s have some ice cream and beer together to celebrate some of the most disruptive happenings on the margins of tech in Barcelona (your first drink and ice cream are on us). We’ve put together an intimate evening of music and reflections from folks who are working at the intersection of technology and society and we want you there with us.

Meet Moon Ribas, a Spanish avant-garde artist, and cyborg activist best known for developing and implanting an online seismic sensor in her elbow that allows her to feel earthquakes through vibrations. Hear from Ricard Faura i Homedes, Tech Anthropologist, who will be sharing some reflections on how Barcelona has become a ground breaking ecosystem for innovation and technological solutions for social impact. And, Katrina Walker, founder and CEO of Codely—Barcelona’s first all-women coding school—will conclude the evening by giving thanks to the many people and organizations that have supported Codely’s vision of designing a more diverse tech sector.

Codely was created to encourage women, as well as trans, intersex, and gender nonconforming students, to pursue a fulfilling career in tech; to equip them with the skills needed to become leading developers and data engineers in their fields; and to launch a supportive network of professionals who will transform the culture of tech. We believe the lack of representation for women-identified people in this industry is a complex issue that will require more than one solution. Our approach is to cultivate an environment that is conducive both to learning advanced material and to developing a supportive network of individuals who are familiar with the issues uniquely faced by women-identified people in tech.
