Title: Video, virtual reality and challenges ahead in the future of media (Dr Joan Llobera, i2Cat Foundation)
Abstract: This talk will provide an overview of the activities of the Media team of the i2cat Foundation. Our current efforts are focused on combining fundamental research and practical innovation activities to ideate, research, develop and bring to the market media services and solutions. More specifically, we are working on multi-platform content production and delivery, combining innovative video formats. On the mid-term, we plan to combine such work with CGI-based virtual reality content, similar to videogames, smart interactive characters, machine learning for media, or innovative content management. We will overview current activities, what is planned for the coming years, and outline some specific examples of how we have dealt with specific engineering problems in the last 18 months.
