Ever since Satoshi Nakamoto published an invention he called bitcoin in 2009, cryptocurrency has had wild ups and downs. But in the recent years, people have moved on from seeing bitcoin merely as a controversial currency and started looking into the endless possibilities that it presents. At the forefront there is the public ledger that records every bitcoin transaction known as the blockchain. The same happens with more than 1,300 other cryptocurrencies that appeared since 2009.

Blockchain technology provides now exciting new alternatives to traditional currency, but beyond that it has additional uses that will change the world. In this first event in the Blockchain for Business Barcelona group we want to give an idea of why this has become so important for businesses, and why blockchain should matter to companies and to all of us.

Speakers

Veronica Torras

Veronica is a long time entrepreneur, startup advisor, and mentor. She holds an MBA from Esade Business and Law School and has coached at Singularity University in Silicon Valley. As a founder of B-Wom, she raised over 1 Million dollars to build this healthcare app that today has over 200,000 users and offices in Barcelona and New York. As an active part of the tech community in Europe and the US, she founded and organized the Lean Startup Community in Barcelona which grew from 10 to +2,000 members in just two years. She now serves as the Head of Marketing and Business Development at Jelurida, the creators of the Nxt Blockchain, and the Ardor Platform, a unique Blockchain-as-a-service model, helping companies to adopt and implement Blockchain technology into their business solutions at a fraction of the cost and effort.

Joan Manel Vilaseca

Joan Manel has a unique background in both blockchain and video editing. He earned a degree in film and audiovisual media at ESCAC in Barcelona. His impressive skill set led him to work on a long list of fiction and documentary features, music clips and commercials. Over the past 15 years, Joan Manel has shared his knowledge as a recognized teacher for the audiovisual department at ESCAC. In 2013 he became interested in decentralized business models and blockchain technology. He began to learn and mingle with blockchain key opinion leaders until he himself became an advocate. In 2014, he joined the Ardor Nxt community, and he has been involved in infrastructure, community management, third-party services, technical documentation, and development support for blockchain-based applications. Currently, he combines his passion for video and blockchain with his duty as an investor, not only in cryptocurrencies but also as a business angel and startup advisor.
