AI for Good

November 21, 2019 @ 18:30 - 21:00

ThoughtWorks Spain AI club is a community to connect, engage, discuss and share knowledge about Artificial Intelligence, whether you’re a technologist or not. It is oriented towards all levels of capabilities and disciplines in AI, just a healthy level of interest in the topic is required.

Our first public event will follow the theme of “AI For Good”, hosting Yolanda Lannquist, Edgar Rootalu and Daniyal Shahrokhian who will talk about how they are using AI for social justice.

– 18:30 Welcome!

– 19:00 Blockchain meets AI to make a social impact by Edgar Rootalu, Data Science Consultant at Brave TECH (https://www.bravetech.io)

Both emerging fields are foreseen to have a great impact to our society, but how exactly? In his talk, Edgar will present some public blockchain projects that are not just ideas but already functioning platforms helping to solve problems with high potential impact. He will discuss how the perception of massive datasets can be changed with blockchain technology and what are the opportunities that come with it.

– 19:30 Fighting Social Media Manipulation and Fake News with AI by Daniyal Shahrokhian, Machine Learning Lead at Astroscreen (www.astroscreen.com)

Disinformation is the weapon of choice for terrorists and foreign intelligence agencies alike – and one of its most powerful. From the 2016 US Presidential Election to the Rohingya genocide, only recently have we become aware of the ramifications of these practices on our society. In this presentation, we will explore how Machine Learning can help us fight this problem.

– 20:00 AI for Good by Yolanda Lannquist, Head of Research & Advisory, The AI Initiative of The Future Society (http://thefuturesociety.org/)

This presentation discusses use cases, opportunities, risks, and challenges in applying ‘AI for Good’, including for the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across education, healthcare, climate action, inclusion, and more. It includes a discussion of the key ethical risks and trade-offs in implementing machine learning and AI applications. It concludes by highlighting new projects in AI governance and policy.

– 20:30 Networking

ThoughtWorks will provide snacks, refreshments and food.
