The Coding Workshop:
Are you a complete beginner when it comes to code? Want to try it out or understand the tech world a bit better? Now’s your chance to finally understand how two of the most important frontend languages, HTML and CSS, actually work! In this workshop, we’ll be focusing on coding your own profile page from scratch and understanding the important concepts of HTML and CSS.
What you’ll learn:
• What a basic HTML template is and how to generate one in 2 seconds
• How to link the CSS to the HTML and add design to your page
• How to make a website look great on every device
• How to use popular libraries like Google Fonts and Font Awesome, saving time when designing
You’ll then head home with your very own profile page that you’ve coded yourself! Your coding teacher, Ellyn, will be guiding you through new concepts in just 4 hours, instead of days or weeks. It’s the perfect taster to try a new experience in tech, or to just have some fun. Our only requirement from you is that you are eager to learn.
After we’ve coded together, we’ll be joined by Laura Fernández Giménez (CEO & Founder of AllWomen.Tech) and Emily Elwes (CEO & Founder of Flylancer) who will discuss “Breaking into the world of tech, what I’ve learned from my career.” They’ll be sharing their tips and sparking off the conversation for us all to chat and mingle together!
Who’s it for
While the workshop is reserved for self-identifying women, everyone is welcome to join for the afternoon of discussion and networking. Our aim is to break down the barriers to tech, share the chance to code with everyone and build a community of women passionate about technology.
Coding prerequisites: None, this is a workshop for beginners!
What to bring?
Please bring your laptop fully charged, with the following free programmes installed:
• Google Chrome
• Sublime Text (https://www.sublimetext.com)
• And please bring your own lunch
Above all, it’s a practical, pressure-free session and we are here to learn together, make mistakes, exchange and collaborate! This event will be held in English, but all are welcome. We can’t wait to meet you!
