Women Who Have Transitioned to Tech – Part Two

December 16, 2019 @ 18:30 - 20:30

Free

Have you considered getting into tech, but aren’t sure if it is for you? Welcome to the club.

Join us Monday, December 16th for some cava and candycanes as we hear from women who have made the leap into tech from non-technical careers. There will also be a little exercise that will familiarize you with reading code and demystifying what an algorithm really is.

The Line-Up:

Intro: Katrina Walker is the founder and CEO of CodeOp—Barcelona’s first coding school for women, trans and gender non-conforming people. Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Katrina moved to Barcelona to study and work as a data scientist. It took many years, bad jobs, and living paycheck-to-paycheck, before she finally found the courage—after the age of 30—to confront her fears and pursue her childhood dreams. Now, she is on a new learning curve as an entrepreneur. Talk to her about turning an idea into a company, and fundraising for the first time.

Activity Lead: Tatiana Gottlib is a social entrepreneur and software developer, combining her passion for people, innovation and technology. After working as a eCommerce developer in Wix.com and completing her MBA in EADA Business School, she started her own venture – 24Joyzd – to help socially responsible companies to receive support and recognition they deserve. More recently, she has been working as a technical product specialist at Dynatrace, helping Fortune500 companies to make software work perfectly.

Panellist: Melanie De Leon is a biologist who joined Marfeel as a developer after completing three bootcamps in Barcelona. Yes, three bootcamps. After designing a lot of websites as a hobby, she decided to take her hobby to the next level. What she likes about coding, “you feel like you are using your brain a lot.” If you are curious what work life is like, following two weeks after a bootcamp — she’s the person with whom you should speak.

Panellist: Aleum Yang Urfels, comes from a multi-disciplinary background. Prior to founding Women N Talent, Aleum worked in the non-profit world for organizations like Doctors Without Borders. She never intended on becoming a software engineer, instead she enrolled in a bootcamp (as a mom of two) so she could build a platform for her company herself. What happened? She got hooked on coding, ditched her company, and has been working as a software engineer for Sopra for the past 8 months. Aleum didn’t know an ounce of code before joining the bootcamp. Hear how she juggled two kids, while crushing the bootcamp and starting a new career in her mid 30s.
