Platform Innovation : some key points for building two-sided networks by Sabrina Guzman

A platform is a business model that enables the exchange of value between two or more sets of users, usually producers and consumers. Think Uber, Airbnb, Apple’s iOS, Google’s Android, etc.

The purpose of the talk is to understand major questions to take to account while creating this type of products :

• From product to platforms : main differences and characteristics

• How to build a core interaction before selecting features

• Solving the chicken and egg problem

• Barriers of entry and why to foster positive network effects

• Ways to monetize : why early and why later?

Sabrina is an entrepreneur fascinated by platform business design and disruption theory with 8+ years of experience in the Internet Industry. Founding member of Platform Innovation, a framework for designing, prototyping and launching platform business models.

With strong platform and product management experience, she has been involved in the development of several platform business models: I was part of the founding team of the first car sharing platform in Colombia, in charge of the platform architecture and launch strategy of an IoT platform of self service machines, a recruitment platform, and a readers community with more than 2 million users.

How to use the design thinking methodology to revamp your API?

Almost any digital product should be able to focus on the main problem it tries to solve and accept the fundamental chaotic nature of the ecosystem it lives in.

The best way to address both goal is to have a clear API strategy and to put external developers at the heart of your roadmap.

In order to do this, you can use the design thinking methodology to outline the best developer experience you want to deliver.

Alessandro is a seasoned Product Manager with a deep knowledge of the travel industry and a combined background in engineering and business. Currently lead product manager at Weekendesk, he oversees their inbound and outbound APIs strategy.
